Detroit Auto Show: Jeep Hurricane Concept
Jeep surprised everyone when the Hurricane stormed on stage. Powered by two 5.7-liter Hemi engines (yes two) one in the front and one in the back that deliver up to 670hp and 740 lb-ft of torque. The engines can be used together or independently and can deliver 4-, 8-, 12- or 16-cylinders worth of power with the Multi-Displacement System. This thing is the ultimate in 4x4 vehicles with 20 inches of suspension travel, 14.3 inches of ground clearance and all four wheels can be turned to crab-crawl sideways without changing the direction the vehicle is pointed. Walter (or anyone), do you know what the weight of this is? With two engines you could get some serious speed if it's pretty light.
Heck, being a concept, it's probably all plastic and weighs 1000 lbs or something. 0-60 in 2 seconds. 0-broken engine in 12.

She's a heavy sucker weighing in at 3,850 lbs. The body looks to be mostly carbon-fiber and steel. All the engines and heavy duty suspension add to the weight. I don't think 0-60 times are what the Hurricane was created for, but it would be a hoot to see this sucker crab-crawl at 100 mph!

No, no, no. I want to see how fast it could spin in a circle following that last slide you present. I think it would give all new meaning to "RPM" with cars.

Can you tell us more about the transmission? The thing has driveshafts going down both sides of the car.

I have been waiting for years to see Jeep return to the serious market of off road. Hummer who?? Finally, a Jeep to drool over. I want this Jeep now! Put me on the waiting list... When can I leave a deposit? It is refreshing to see American auto makers leading the engineering designs.

Speed Buggy eat your heart out, you just got passed and the driver spun around to make fun of you while he did it, this thing needs to see production, I'm reserving a space in my garage, considering selling my soul.

Yeah this thing is sweet, I want one. Are there any plans to bring this to production.

Mr. Keegan, or anyone w/ the answer - Is there any ball park as to the price range of this? My son just saw a demo on Sunday Morning CBS, and showed me the web site. This is pretty exciting. Thanks.

I live in Idaho with the best testing grounds in the world for 4X4's. I'd be glad to run it through a real mans test. This may take a little time but I'm willing to make the sacrifice.

The Jeep Hurricane seems to be the perfect off road vechilce seince the Willy. However I think that two egines would be pushing it. put two more seats or some sort of space to store things needed for the outdoors. Besides it is only fun if you can sare it with your friends. Please release it to the public soon. I want to buy one.

Does anyone know how much it will go for when it comes to the public market?

SPEECHLESS, JUST SPEECHLESS!!!!!!
Jeep, please dont tease me!!!
This thing looks completely amazing!!!
My 87YJ with all the mods I put in it weighs in at 3900lbs, but this thing looks like it could handle almost anywhere I take my YJ, I WANT ONE!!! I'll tell ya what, go on and eliminate 1 motor and the ability to spin in circles and do that crab thing if ya want for a production model, but PLEASE SELL THESE!!!!!
or, come to think if it, go ahead and build it according to the concept. I'll re-enter the stock class rock crawling comps I used to run. I would OWN 1st place every time if I had one of these!!!
PLEASE JEEP, BUILD AND SELL ME THIS THING!!!!

WOW! This would look nice next to my TJ Sport! Does this concept need the 2 engines for all the ideas to work, or can just 1 hemi make it work? Maybe supercharge the front hemi, drop the rear hemi & use that space for a spare tire, storage, & extra fuel capacity for distance runs. (OIIIIIIIO)

Finally, a truly innovative concept vehicle! I bet this thing got its name because Jeep people knew it would look like a hurricane spinning with its wheels turned and both Hemi's pullin max RPMs. Talkin about getting you dizzier than the Tilt-a-whirl! This thing is very cool, and if it was produced it would certainly be something worth collecting, but I doubt it ever will be considering the complexity of the engineering, and the cost of production. All this aside, I love it. It's the coolest concept car thats come out in a long time.

Cool Jeep. Very cool design. Looks Sharp and for the most part very pratical.
I like the 4 wheel steer concept. Would be very usefull. But on a short wheelbase vehicle such as the typical jeep. It would be a bit much for on-road use. Unless you have a switching system to go from 2W Steer/ 4W steer. Which I'm sure you do.
Loose the 2 engine design. That is pushing it a bit too much. There is no way a Jeep needs that much H.P. Plus there is allways the mechanical aspect of trying to keep the 2 engines in exact time and speed with 1 another. I forsee many problems with that. Not impossiable, just a bit hetic.
Ok, I like the 4 indepent drive on a concept. But in all practiallity. It is flawed. Makes for too much wieght requiring the extra drive shafts. Which also requires more tourqe to move the extra drive shafts. Which in turn creates more fuel consumption.
Now come on. I thought we were looking for ways to save fuel. Not burn more!
After getting rid on the extra engine. Preferably keeping the front engine. Turn the reasr space into extra seating area. And/Or Trunck space.
Still you could keep the rear engine design, eliminating the front engine. Maybe beefing the suspension a bit more. Making it into a more Baja Concept design. A bit like a Dune Buggy throw back.

I have been a Jeep enthusiast and i fact I love to see a TJ. Now there's Hurricane and it's great!! I love the concept and design. Can the maker of this Jeep produce an equivalent that is suited only for everyday driving, with a lesser power designed for minor and light off-roading?

I think the rear engine is a little to much. Keep the front Hemi and create storage space in the back and I may consider trading in my YJ.
