UPDATE: Mazda to debut MX-Crossport at Detroit
-Since everyone seems enamored with this SUV, I finally got my hands on a hi-res shot. Click the image above for a better, clearer pic.
Everyone's getting in on the pre-hype now. The Mazda MX-Crossport looks like a Mazda6 suv. Mazda sounds pretty serious about the production intentions of this vehicle – what would be their first crossover vehicle in the lineup. The link is to the press release. Oh BTW, I'm sick of the use of "Zoom-Zoom Products". It's childish and sounds stupid.

we've got to help Mazda out. Great products. Sh*tty marketing. Maybe a post later today. Think this will replace the 6 wagon? wonder how those sales are? they don't break them down by hatch, sedan and wagon on the company's website.
This would sell really well.

Damn that's one nice looking vehicle. Probably one of the better designs I've seen all year in fact. I really like it despite it's SUVness.

If it replaces anything, I bet it'll be the Tribute.

Wow, this is the first SUV that's got me jumping for Joy! It's a pretty sleek deisgn, and as a M6 owner, I know that the interior quality will be just as good, if not better, than the sedan.
Mazda is pretty serious about building this vehicle, and not a moment too soon. The Tribute is on its last legs.

I wouldn't say that the Tribute is on its last legs, as it's still a solid compact SUV, but it is somewhat redundant now that Mercury has its version of the Escape on the market.
However, this vehicle is pretty sharp and I'm sure would sell quite well. I see a little Murano and XC-90 in the design, but you can definitely tell it's a Mazda

I am with Doogs. The Tribute would be the only car replaced by this beauty but I am not too sure it will replace anything in the Mazda line up. Now, "this beauty" reminds me a lot of the Aviator Concept shown last year which is also based on the M6 architecture, and which also looked really good. Now Ford has one of these in the oven too. I wonder if it will look this good. I bet they will show something next spring in NYC.
I don't think the Tribute is in its last legs. Actually as far as I have read the mini-utes wont be replaced anytime zoom ... I mean soon. Not until 2008 or something like that.

Wonderful. I'm dying to see the interior.
Price it at 25k or under, with AWD and I'm so there.

I understand the Tribute will go to 3 row seating within 2 years.
My best take on this vehicle is something to replace the MPV which get's replaced by the new Mazda5 which will be a mini-minivan with only 2 row seating.
It was shown at the Paris Auto Show recently.

I'd guess AWD would be coming to many Mazda vehicles based on the 6 now that the Mazdaspeed 6 has it. This is so hot. Role call on who hates the most recognizable slogan in advertising? I say no to zoom zoom who else?

i'm impressed. mazda really has been on a roll lately with the 3 & 6 designs. this "crossport" will sell. as we had discussed previously, they need to do something with their dealers...i have never had a favorable experience at a mazda dealer and that's too bad. the product deserves better.

I don't think this will replace the Tribute. Rather, it will be sold alongside it. There's very little non-recurring cost with keeping the tribute (no R&D), and here soon Mazda should be getting some good press from it due to rebadging the Ford Escape Hybrid.
All that notwithstanding, the MX-Crossport does look sharp.

SGV...I think you are correct on the Aviator part. It is VERY similar to the concept and it is the platform that the Aviator will be built on. I doubt it will replace the Tribute. It's their entry in that market and they want to keep a presence. I have a feeling this will be priced above the Tribute.

I have to agree, this car is probably the sleekest looking SUV I've seen in forever. Props to Mazda, but I have to agree- until the ownership experience and reliability are up to the other Japanese car company's levels, Mazda will always be the "also ran".

So...is the Suzuki Concept X (from the Autoweek article robofunk linked) on this platform as well? Has the same low-slung look as the MX and Lincoln's Aviator concept to me.

I thought Suzuki's next SUV would be based on the Chevy Equinox platform. Obviously it wouldnt' share with other brands outside the company like Mazda & Kia.

Yeah, the Suzuki is the Theta platform (GM's VUE and Equinox and Torrent).
