In celebration of the Range rover Sport Forbes gives us their list of the five most powerful SUVs. Sure you knew about the Porsche Cayenne Turbo but did you know the horrendously ugly Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG produces a whopping 469 horsepower? It still wouldn't make us want to buy one. The standard Forbes slideshow is included.

Personally, I love the G-Wagen's clunky styling. It is, after all, a military vehicle at heart, not a wannabe like the H2. In a way, I think Mercedes missed the mark. They could have brought over a more spartan version. A two-door ragtop would have been perfect for people wanting beyond the Jeep Wrangler (especially considering the void left by Land Rover's Defender 90). There's nothing wrong with ultra-functional SUVs. The problem is when they are dudded up and priced so high that anyone who would ever use them as intended can't afford them.

*yawn* Is there anything more pointless than having 400 horsepower just so you can move your mommy-wagon at the same speed as a car costing 1/4 the amount? Give me an Evo and a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and either will outperform the Porche monstrosity in its given environment. Plus leave quite a bit of cash left over for the speeding tickets... :)

What your Mercedes dealer calls the Gaelendawagen, the Marines call the IFAV, or Interim Fast Action Vehicle. http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/row/wolf.htm They universally hate the Hummer - too slow, too big, too thirsty and not as good offroad or hauling cargo as advertised. The jarheads would really much rather have the old Jeep back, but as Daimler-Chrysler can make more money moving Gaelendawagens, Jeep won't make a new milspec vehicle, Mercedes Benz will. Looks pretty bad-ass, actually... and how cool would a Gaelendawagen drop-top in civvie trim be? Too damn ccool.
