Ford announced that Mercury's concept for the 2005 North American International Auto Show in January would be the Meta One. Merc says that Meta is the Greek word meaning "go beyond" and the concept will show the future direction of Mercury style. But the vehicle, obviously the Merc version of the Freestyle, pushes no boundaries for Mercury (I fear the future of this division if this is what I have to look forward to) but it will be overloaded with so many safety features you won't have to even be in the front seat to drive the darn thing. Features include Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Collision Mitigation by Braking (CMbB – what else?) both currently available on current production cars. So what kind of future do I see for Mercury… wake me up when they go the way of Plymouth and Olds. This is a scoop, so I have no links for you.
