I know this doesn't really have anything to do with any breaking news item, but I just wanted to share my affection for the potential Audi S3, as rendered at right by the German tuning company Abt. Although the plain A3 will come stateside next year, it's only going to feature a 2.0 liter turbo and FWD, at least initially, so as not to suck sales away from the A4. Seriously Audi, it's not cool to play with my emotions like that. The one that would really get the saliva flowing is the S3, a two-door hatch with Quattro and 300-some horsepower. Not only does the A3 body look better with 2 doors, if priced correctly the S3 could rival the STi, Evo and whatever the VW R32 morphs into. Abt does offer a Sportsline tuning kit for the A3, but good luck getting it done in America. Although the market for a high-end hatch isn't too broad, I think Audi could build off of the cultish appreciation for the B5 S4 and offer a lower priced alternative to the $50K+ B6/B7 S4. Ok, time to turn "naive justification mode" off. Now back to your regularly scheduled blogging.
