Smart's baby ute, set to arrive in the U.S. in 2006, has been nabbed in a near-final production form, except for the presence of an apparent neoprene wetsuit. It'll need that wetsuit when it floats in as the first Smart to hit our shores, and the first to expand past Smart's typical minicar lineup. Most likely it'll butt hoods with the Toyota RAV4, Honda CRV and Land Rover Freelander, and it may even compete against its parent company's Mercedes X-Class. Underneath the Formore is a modified Benz C-Class platform and permanent four-wheel-drive, although godspeed and good luck to anyone taking this Smart off-road. It will scuttle along due to a 1.8 liter four cylinder or 3.0 liter V6, mated to five speed auto and six-speed manual gearboxes. Formore production will begin in Brazil in late 2005.
