After federal officials reported Sunday that al-Qaeda may be plotting a car or truck bomb attack against financial institutions in the Tri-State area and Washington, D.C., a number of traffic-related safety measures were swiftly enacted. NYC-bound commercial vehicles are prohibited from using the Holland and Brooklyn Battery Tunnels, trucks have also been banned from the Williamsburg Bridge, and random vehicle searches will take place in Lower and Midtown Manhattan and Queens. In New Jersey, Prudential Plaza in Newark will be cordoned off and all vehicle traffic will be banned from nearby streets. In the District of Columbia, the sole measure will be random searches. At your local intersection, in order to confuse the hell out of potential terrorists, motorists have been instructed to makes lefts on red while failing to signal and while checking their email on their Blackberries.
