The BMW 5-Series wagon has always been one of my favorite rides, due to its relative scarcity and ability to play up to my wagon-loving sensibility. For 2004 the 5-Series finally returns to the field after a one-year stint on the D.L. New sheet metal was developed for the hauler, but the wagon basically gets the same equipment found on the 5-Series sedan, like Dynamic Drive, Active Steering and the only in-car computer capable of defeating Deep Blue in a chess game, iDrive. Of course what the wagon adds is a capacious trunk area with a power tailgate and automatic load leveling system. The two sole incarnations will be the 525i and 545i.
