If you aren't sick of hearing about the first gas-electric hybrid SUV already, there's a piece over at Autoweek that details the Escape Hybrid's product intro. Specifically interesting is how Ford is trying to remake itself into a hippie-friendly corporation that's ready to "fight the power" (Public Enemy has never felt so ashamed) and be "serious about a better world." There's plenty of technical data to enter into your Ti-82 graphing calculator, and the numbers we've all read before still overwhelm the actual real driving experience, which gets a few scant paragraphs. Operation is called "effortless" and the vehicle is even somewhat capable off-road, but the article explains, as several reports have already shown, that the Escape Hybrid gets significantly worse mileage than its engineers claim.
