Want a Prius? Get in line
It seems everyone wants to go hybrid these days. Autoweek turns in an interesting story on how some Toyota dealerships aren't even putting customers on a Prius wait list anymore. Guys like IBM engineer David Wells, pictured here, will just have to be patient to save the planet from environmental doom. He isn't likely to drive one home until the 2005 model comes out. I guess we can't all be Jake Gyllenhaal can we?

...I've wanted to one of these since last fall and I've given up and gotten a Mini that gets like 30+ MPG. However, I really want to et 50+ MPG and stop supporting the places like Saudi Arabia that are the epicenters of terrorism. I'm so happy to see market demand for these go through the roof... Americans understand that the mess in the middle east is based in many ways on our dependence on their oil. Imagine if the whole country had 50+ MPG cars...that would be amazing.

Dependence on middle east oil is a fallacy. We import as much from mexico, canada, and venezuela as we do from the Saudis. in 1999 we were the 3rd largest producer of oil behind the saudis and former soviet union. in 1996 we were the largest oil producer. if we want to lessen dependence on the saudis we should be using our own oil.
